Nursery

WHAT TO EXPECT ON SUNDAY

Nursery through 2 yrs. old:
The nursery is broken down into four rooms.
  1. Attentive Care: Newborns
  2. Crawlers: Crawlers
  3. Toddlers: 1 yr. old AND walking
  4. 2’s: 2 yrs. old

Drop-off Process
When you take your child to the room, the workers will collect any diaper bags, coats, or anything else you have sent for your child and label it.

Lesson Time

We strive to make the nurseries at Westwood a place of learning. We believe that babies and young children are able to pick up on the basic truths of our faith and teach babies that Jesus loves them, God made them, and other truths from God’s Word. The babies and toddlers are taught through interactions with the teachers while learning through play, song, rhymes, and stories.

Snack Time
Once during each service the children will be offered a small snack. This consists of water and usually Gold Fish crackers or Cheerios.

Diapers

It is the goal of our nursery to make sure that each child’s diaper has been checked and changed at least once each hour. If your child is potty training, please make sure your child has a blue sticker on his name tag which will let us know to take them to the bathroom.

FAQ's for the Nursery:
  • Am I free to stay in the nursery with my baby? Sometimes it is helpful to a child if mom or dad step into the nursery with them. Parents are welcome to stay in the nursery to help their child acclimate to the nursery and feel comfortable in the new surrounding. We recommend that this “transitional period” be as short as possible and not exceed one hour.
  • Can I check up on my baby? The newborn nursery is equipped with a tinted window so you may check on your baby without them seeing you. If you must check on your crawler or toddler we ask that you be discrete and do not allow them to see you as this can cause them to become upset.
  • Is there a place for my baby to take a nap? The newborn and crawlers nurseries are equipped with cribs for your baby to take a nap. The other rooms are not equipped for naps.
  • Where can I nurse my baby? The nursing mom’s room is next to the ladies’ main bathroom in the foyer. There is a couch, bassinet, and changing table there for your use.
  • What should I bring for my child? Diaper, bottle, and comfort item (pacifier, blankie, etc.)
  • When does my child move up?  You can move your child up to the next class on his or her birthday. If necessary, we offer an 8 week grace period for you to move your child up to the next class. Please note that one year olds also need to be walking in order to move up.
  • How will you contact me if I am needed?  If your child is experiencing severe separation anxiety or suddenly becomes ill or is seriously injured, we will page you. If you do not respond to the page, we will come and find you. We require that all parents using the nursery take a pager at check-in.
