WESTWOOD PRESCHOOL

Loving To Learn and Learning To Love

If you happen to peek through the doors during preschool hours, you will no doubt catch a glimpse of the busyness, learning, and socializing that has been developing since school started! Many friends have been made, and we are discovering and learning something new everyday. Here are just a few updates on what's been happening in the classroom.

The children have now been introduced to the letters A through F, and have been doing a fabulous job with their homework. They are working on learning the hand signs to go with the letters, as well. We sing our Phonics Song every day, which is teaching them the letters' sounds through music--a great way to learn!

We have taken advantage of all the fun fall activities as much as possible. The children handed out the apples they brought to school to people working at the church, and during circle time we got to disect a few, look inside, and then taste them. During pumpkin week, the children helped clean out a big pumpkin, and then we all got to taste roasted pumpkin seeds (my favorite part!). Of course we had our pumpkin patch field trip, as well, which was super fun. During leaf week we learned about the different things of fall that makes the leaves turn color, and how we have deciduous trees and evergreen trees. Ask your child what they learned; they may surprise you!

This last week we learned about community helpers, and were actually visited by a couple! The M/W/F class got to meet Officer Hurd, an Olympia police officer who came to talk to us about safety and his job. The children got to see the car and some of the cool things a police officer gets to use. The T/TH class got to meet a nurse, and hear about how she takes care of babies when they are born. They even got to take home their very own surgical mask and cap.

We also had our Bring a Candy Bar for a Soldier Day this week, in honor of Veteran's Day. We all had fun, as the children drew pictures to send as well, and the teachers scribed for them what they would like to say to the soldier. I thought I would share a few of our favorites ;)

"I love you, and I want you to have a sleepover at my house."

"Thank you for making our country safe, our houses safe to live in, and how we can drive safely."

"I love you, you're as nice as a cupcake, and you smell like flowers!"

"I like soldiers!"

In Christ,
