WESTWOOD BAPTIST PRESCHOOL
Loving To Learn and Learning To Love
October 2014

We are off to a great year learning about our school, tools and rules - like staying safe, being respectful, responsible and kind.   In our building are many staff workers, we met and learned what many of them do, and we handed out apples and thanked them.

My 5 senses week had many things to explore such as; smelly jars, bells, view finders, kaleidoscopes, feely boards,  we even did some chocolate pudding painting, using all 5 senses, including tasting - Yum!

During apple week, our science tables were laden with apple branches with apples and magnifying glasses. We learned of the different parts of an apple as we dissected and tasted them. They learned that worms like apples too, as they discovered some wormholes.  We also made apple pie on a stick!

Signs of Autumn/Fall are all around us and in our rooms too. One of our preschool moms came and told us that on the way to school her son was pointing out all the signs of Fall. Way to teach it Mrs. Montgomery -they are learning! I brought in a giant sunflower that the children helped deseed with tweezers and fingers. I roasted them for tasting.

Community Helper week we made great use of our parents. We had a police officer, a dad from the salmon hatchery, a fire fighter and soldier/military officer. They each did a wonderful job teaching the children how they help others in our community, and in our world.

We will be going on a field trip to Schilter’s Pumpkin Patch, as we extend out learning about pumpkins. We will clean pumpkins and get the gooey, stringy pulp out, and separate seeds for roasting.  Thanks parents for helping to drive!

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Psalm 139:14
At our Bible time, we learned of God’s creation, the flood and Moses. We learned that God created us unique and with special purpose. That He loves and cares for us all the time.

In Christ,
Mrs. Forbes, Mrs. Montgomery & Mrs. Nash
